Dr. Kevin Hurst works on policy issues related to energy and climate change technologies, including biofuels, clean power, and advanced transportation. His technical background is in motor controls. He has a bachelors degree from MIT and a PhD from Georgia Tech. His first job was division officer on a U.S. Navy submarine tender in New London, CT. After graduate school, Kevin worked at Sundstrand Aerospace as a senior engineer, and then at General Motors−Allison Electric Drives, where he led development of power converters for heavy-duty hybrid-electric vehicles. On a personal note, Kevin and his wife Joan have a 7-year-old daughter, who keeps them young and active.
